This Privacy Policy explains what information RideTrack (“the app,” “we,” “us”) collects, how it is used, and the choices available to you. It applies to the RideTrack Android application available on Google Play.
RideTrack is a GPS-based ride and activity tracking app. Its core purpose is recording your walking, running, cycling, and other trips — distance, route, speed, and duration — for your own reference.
RideTrack uses your device’s GPS to record the route, distance, speed, and elevation of your rides. This is the app’s core function and the reason the app exists.
Location data collected during a ride is stored only on your device. RideTrack does not operate any server, and does not transmit your route or location history to us or to any analytics or advertising company.
If enabled on your device, RideTrack may use Android’s on-device Activity Recognition service (via Google Play Services) to help distinguish walking, running, and cycling from one another more accurately than GPS speed alone can. This processing happens on your device; RideTrack receives only a general activity classification (e.g., “walking”), never raw sensor data, and this is used solely to help title your rides more accurately. It is not transmitted anywhere by RideTrack.
Distance, duration, speed, elevation, route, and any titles or notes you add to a ride are stored locally in the app’s database on your device. This data is never uploaded to any RideTrack server, because no such server exists.
To display maps of your recorded routes, and for the optional Offline Maps feature, RideTrack fetches map tile images from OpenStreetMap’s tile servers, based on the geographic area being displayed or downloaded. These requests are made directly from your device to OpenStreetMap’s infrastructure and, like any web request, include your device’s IP address as a technical necessity of the request. RideTrack does not send your saved ride history to OpenStreetMap — only the coordinates of the specific area currently being viewed or downloaded. This data flow is governed by the OpenStreetMap Foundation’s Privacy Policy, not by RideTrack.
RideTrack supports Android’s built-in Auto Backup feature, which — if enabled on your device — automatically backs up the app’s local data (your ride history) to your own private Google Drive storage associated with your Google account. This backup is managed by the Android operating system, not by RideTrack directly, is not accessible to us, and is used only to restore your data if you reinstall the app or set up a new device. You can disable this at any time in your device’s system settings.
If RideTrack offers an optional paid upgrade (“Pro”), purchases are processed entirely by Google Play Billing. RideTrack does not receive or store your payment card details, billing address, or other payment information — these are handled directly by Google. RideTrack receives only confirmation of whether a purchase was completed, which is stored on your device to unlock the relevant features.
RideTrack does not require you to create an account, and does not collect your name, email address, or other identifying profile information. The app contains no advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and does not sell or share your data with data brokers or advertisers.
Everything described in Section 1 is used exclusively to provide the app’s own functionality to you: recording and displaying your rides, titling them accurately, showing maps, enabling offline map access, and (where applicable) unlocking paid features you’ve purchased. None of it is used for advertising, sold to third parties, or used to build a profile about you for any purpose beyond the app itself.
Your ride data is stored locally on your device for as long as you keep the app installed, or until you delete it yourself. You can:
We do not retain any copy of your data ourselves, since none is ever transmitted to us.
RideTrack relies on the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
RideTrack does not integrate any advertising network, analytics SDK, or other third-party data collector beyond those listed above.
RideTrack is not directed at children under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us using the details below and we will address it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect new features or changes in applicable law. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
